The idea of doing "content marketing" intimidates most people. It intimidated me, and I'd been a salesman and a copywriter almost all of my life.

When I came up with the viewpoint below, everything changed for me.

See if it resonates with you.

If you have ever taught your son or daughter how to cook a meal, throw a baseball, or tie a shoe, you are a content marketer.

If you have ever helped a new hire get settled at work, you are a content marketer.

If you have ever shown a friend how to do something on their phone, you are a content marketer.

If you have ever walked a neighbor through fixing a dripping faucet, you are a content marketer.

See the pattern?

Content marketing is simply teaching.

Here is the problem.

The term intimidates people.

They believe they have to be THE expert.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

The truth about content marketing that almost no one says out loud is this.

You only need to know a little bit more than the person who comes behind you.

That has been true since the beginning of time.

It is how people teach.

And content marketing, done right, is not about hyping someone up so they buy today.

It is about sharing knowledge and experience.

Sharing something valuable with a person who can take that thing and make their life better by doing something about it.

Maybe you are not the expert of the world.

Maybe you are not even an expert.

Do not worry about it. Just share what you do know and leave the rest behind. You're not being tested, and you won't receive a grade.

But you might build a business.

There is no better time than now to become a content marketer.

Here is something marketers keep learning the hard way.

People want content.

  • They do not want hype.

  • They do not want more advertising.

  • They do not want pressure.

They want content.

They want to learn how to do things for themselves so they can have true independence.

That is why content marketing is the highest expression of pull marketing.

More on that tomorrow.

Tomorrow I am going to share the difference between push and pull marketing.

And why one of them is free to start using today.

Hit reply and tell me - what is the one thing you have taught someone this year?

To your success,
Charlie

P.S. Watch for tomorrow's letter. It might be the most useful one I send all month.
