A few weeks ago I mentioned something I call the breathing method.
I told you it was how I create my newsletter the right way.
Today I want to explain it, because it might be the most important thing I teach.
Most people do one of two things with their email list.
They send nothing but free content and never make an offer. Their list loves them, but they make no money.
Or they send nothing but offers and their list tunes them out inside of a week.
Both of these are mistakes. And both come from the same fear - the fear that selling and serving cannot live in the same email.
They can. They do. And the breathing method is how.
1. You breathe in with value. Every newsletter I send begins with something useful. A story. A lesson. An insight. Something you can take and use today without paying me a dime. That is the inhale. You are giving before you ask for anything.
2. You breathe out with an offer. After the value comes the offer. Not a hard sell. Not a demand. Just a natural invitation. "If this helped you and you want more, here is where to find it." That is the exhale. You are giving them a place to go if they want to go deeper.
3. The rhythm is what makes it work. It is not the value alone. It is not the offer alone. It is the rhythm of the two together. Value, value, value, then an offer. Value, value, value, then an offer. When you do this consistently, two things happen. Your readers trust you because you are not always selling. And your readers buy from you because you are not afraid to ask.
4. Most people get the rhythm backwards. They hold their breath. They send value for months and never exhale with an offer. Or they hyperventilate - offer after offer with no value in between. The breathing method is steady. In, out. Give, invite. Every time.
I have been sending emails since 1998. This is the single most important thing I have learned about how to make a newsletter profitable without burning out your list.
The breathing method is not a trick. It is the golden rule applied to email marketing. Give more than you ask. But do ask.
Hit reply and tell me - are you breathing in and breathing out with your list, or are you holding your breath? I read every reply.
To your success,
Charlie
