Issue 102 - Sprint Lap 1

On Saturday I told you a sprint was coming. This is lap one.

Before you can win at the new face of affiliate marketing, you have to be honest about what changed. So today, we take a look.

Broke item one: the commission wipeout.

Amazon rewrote its commission structure and creators watched roughly a quarter of their affiliate income vanish. Not slowly. Overnight. If a quarter of your income can disappear because a platform changed a term of service, you do not have a business. You have a lease on someone else's land.

Broke item two: the search box.

Roughly two out of three Google searches now end without a click. People ask, Google answers on the results page, and the searcher never touches your site. Google's own AI Overviews are projected to cut traditional search traffic by about 25 percent.

For twenty years the playbook was: rank on Google, drop your link, wait. That playbook assumed the click existed.

Broke item three: the generic review page.

"Best AI writing tool" - pages named like that are dying, and everyone publishing them is competing against AI that can generate ten thousand of them before lunch. When information is infinite and free, a page that merely sums up information is worth exactly what it costs. Nothing.

Now here is the part where people get confused (understandably)

The money did not break.

US affiliate spend is still growing - 13.81 billion dollars this year, influencing over 241 billion in online sales. The channel is fine. The commissions are still flowing.

They are just flowing to a different kind of affiliate.

The ones getting paid now own an audience, show first-hand proof, and give verdicts instead of summaries. The ones going broke are renting traffic from a search engine that answers questions before the click.

Same industry. Opposite fates.

The difference is not effort or luck.

The difference is what they built their business on.

On Thursday I will share why trust is the new traffic - and the one question that decides everything in the AI era.

Because seeing this clearly is a beautiful (and profitable) thing indeed.
