Here's a mistake I see constantly: someone builds a genuinely good product, then picks a platform to promote it on because "that's where everybody is." Then they wonder why nothing's happening.
The truth is, every platform has a personality. Some are built for browsing, some for searching, some for watching, some for reading. If your product doesn't match the personality of the platform, you're not failing — you're just standing in the wrong room.
So before you post one more thing, figure out which room you're actually in.
If you sell this... this platform fits better:
Visual, lifestyle, or physical products (crafts, decor, fashion, beauty) → Pinterest. People go there planning to buy, not just to scroll.
How-to knowledge or courses (teaching a skill, step-by-step guidance) → YouTube. People search for solutions, and your video answers them for years.
Quick tips or personality-driven products (coaching, opinions, niche expertise) → X (Twitter) or Threads. Short, punchy, conversation-based.
Anything visually satisfying to watch made or used (art, cooking, transformations, before/afters) → TikTok or Instagram Reels. Motion sells what a photo can't.
Professional services or B2B offers (consulting, done-for-you services) → LinkedIn. People are in "work brain" there, not "browsing brain."
Niche communities or hobbies (very specific interests — think birdwatching, vintage tools, a rare hobby) → Facebook Groups or Reddit. These audiences already gather themselves; you just need to show up.
Notice what's missing from this list: "all of them."
You don't need six platforms. You need one that matches your offer's personality — and the discipline to actually show up there consistently instead of spreading yourself thin everywhere.
If you worry you don’t have the time, take heart. AI will do the heavy lifting for you.
Pick the row that matches what you sell. That's your platform. Not the one that's trendy — the one that's right.
Start there this week. One platform, one offer, shown consistently. That's how the word actually gets out.
I hope we talk soon,
Charlie
